LIFE OF A WOMAN
(written by Aga Sliz)
This exhibition, curated by Aga Sliz, represents the pain and struggles every woman must tolerate daily as they go through life. All the pieces presented in this art exhibition, explore the challenging experiences of women in an increasingly hostile society.
Dealing with sexual abuse, bullying, misrepresentation and unfair societal expectations, these artists found creativity as a form of therapy that has helped them as they try to heal from the traumas of their past.
This exhibition aims to create awareness of their struggles and provide a safe space for individuals, to share their incredible but sensitive stories, encouraging them to raise their collective voices about the uncomfortable situations they faced. This exhibition is a rallying cry that proclaims we won’t tolerate negativity of any form towards female-identifying individuals.
This exhibition is also a voice of women going through brutal circumstances in Ukraine. Countless female victims of this war are being abused and raped by the enemies of their country. The collective is here to support them as much as we can. The Collective would like to ask for donations that will help provide them some form of solace during this unnecessary act of aggression.
VICTORIA BOAM
Co written by Aga Sliz and Victoria Boam
Uses photography to represent the online words of unkindness and messages sent to her from her business associates.
Victoria’s photography text artwork represents online words of unkindness and messages sent to her from business associates using snippets of words sent to her + publicly written online which she has sometimes had to report and turning negativity into awareness and something positive.
TURNING NEGATIVITY INTO POSITIVE AWARENESS THROUGH PHOTOGRAPHY
Lots of individuals go through the same experience but find it difficult to say something. So to the people who find it hard to talk about their experiences, it is ok to speak out and know that there is a wider audience and network of people to support you, listen and care that negative language and behaviour shouldn’t be so easily normalised.
ABOUT VICTORIA’S PHOTOGRAPHY
Victoria has used imagery with snippets of words sent to her and placed/ written them on items of recycling and placed them in places that are discarded areas to portray how the words have made her feel. Victoria has a series of work too where she has recycled the work into words of her choice, positive and affirming words.
She loves to use recycling as part of her artwork, making use of all types of recycling for different types of projects and also her old clothing, shoes and bags to convey different messages.
MAIN INSPIRATIONS
Victoria’s main inspirations are her life experiences and those around her, a hope to provoke questions, sometimes evoke emotions and create awareness when possible.
GOAL AND VISION
Victoria’s goal and vision for her art in the future would be to create work that can create some awareness, create work that educates herself, makes her ask questions and also create work that can be positive and self-affirming for individuals too. One of Victoria’s other projects going forward is to work with text from cards, postcards and love letters that show lots of kindness, fun, joy and affection too.
